Seed Sowing 2015 Success and Failure

Last winter I sowed a ton of different flowers. Some never sprouted while others died of neglect and poor location. Some grew really well and will hopefully bloom this year. Here's my list, maybe it will be helpful.

Full Blown Success

  • Sedum 'Oracle' (pictured above) - wintersown
  • Coreopsis 'Sunfire' - wintersown
  • Purple Coneflower 'Aunt Barb's Lampasas' - wintersown
  • Bronze Fennel - wintersown
  • Coreopsis 'Mahogany Midget' - started indoors

Blooms second season

  • Echinacea 'White Swan' - wintersown
  • veronica incana aka Silver Speedwell - wintersown
  • jasione laevis aka Sheep's Bit - wintersown
  • Hollyhock 'Nigra' - wintersown
  • rosanna sidalcea - wintersown
  • Liatris 'Floristan White' - wintersown
  • Milkweed - wintersown
  • Blue-eyed grass - wintersown
  • Statice 'Sea Lavendar' - started indoors

  • Penstemon 'Esprit Mix' - started indoors

Wintersowing Failures, mostly due to neglect

Bronze Lychnis, Bergenia, Carpet Bugle, Carpathian harebell, Prunela, chimney bellflower, Beauty of Livermere Poppy, Astilbe, Stokesia, Helenium, Dwarf Goat's Beard, Lobelia 'fountain blue', Sweet Woodruff 'blue surprise', Rock Cress, Bells of Ireland, Blue Fescue, Peony Poppy 'Flemish antique'

Indoor Sowing Failures

  • allysum compacta - poor germ, got eaten by rabbits
  • viola 'Bowles's Black' - no germ
  • Kiwi Blue Honeywort - never got enough sun or warmth?
