Homegrown Melon

First the tomato picture:  2 Black tomatoes, 6 Amish Paste, and some Sungold cherry tomatoes

My cantaloupe finally ripened.  I noticed that the stripes turned from green to gold and the smell was intoxicating. The flesh is a bit darker orange than the picture shows and the flavor is even better than the farmers market melons.  I've read that dry soil makes sweeter melons and I have been pretty lazy about watering the melon patch.  They take up a lot of garden space but I'm definitely going to grow them again next year.

This morning we took Henry for a long walk up the trolley trail to Oella (with a quick stop at the bakery for scones) and this afternoon I'm starting my chili for tomorrow's community garden picnic.
